Sunbury CC Player Profiles - The Captain

Rajan Soni13 Apr 2020 - 19:05

1st XI Skipper reveals some fun facts both cricket & Sunbury related!

Your full name? :
Kevin Smith

Your Age? :
31

Favourite Drink?:
Gin & Tonic (slim lime)

Who was your cricketing hero growing up?:
Andrew Flintoff

What was your first Sunbury memory?:
Probably doing the Sunbury wobble on a Sunday morning in the grasshoppers!:

Over the years, does a single memory stand out as your favourite at Sunbury?:
I think the first time we won the league - what a feeling!

Having played hundreds of matches for Sunbury, is there one which you think is the most memorable you've ever been a part of?:
I'd say Ashtead away in 2017! Chasing 280, we were 100-5 and 150-6 with no one giving us a chance. Ishy smacked 130+ to chase the total down, what an innings - we really had no right to win but Ishy pulled it off!

What's the most embarrassing moment you've ever had on a cricket field?:
Playing East Molsley at home, we were 9 down and batting out for a draw when I decided to slog sweep one of their bowlers!? It went straight to deep mid wicket but was luckily dropped on the boundary, and we got home in the end!

A bit about your teammates now Kev! Who would you say is the best player you've ever played with?:
Adam London - he's my best mate and his stats speak for themselves - hopefully we can see him back in Sunbury colours soon!

Who's your favourite player to play with?:
John Maunders! What a legend - an absolute gentleman and extremely knowledgeable, he's an absolute pleasure to play with.

And finally, who do you think is the most annoying Sunbury Player?:
Probably Sam Burgess! - he keeps talking about batting 3 for the good looking XI?? I don't know what he's on about, he doesn't even make it near the squad?!

Stay tuned for more upcoming player profiles, and let us know any questions you'd like asked in the future!
