6th May 2017
Sunbury CC v Wimbledon CC - Surrey Premier Division 2nd XI R1
Across the road from Centre Court, the 2nd XI started their season off with a difficult fixture against the Dons.
Bowling first, Sunbury took consistent wickets pegging Wimbledon back to 223/8 off their allotted 50 overs. The standout spell was from Nish 'Maiden' Madan, taking 3-29 off 10 overs as Wimbledon posted a sub-par score.
However, Mesome Hussain and Rajan Soni fell early leaving the door open for Wimbledon. There was never any reason to fear though, as Elliot Shaw (87) and Harveer Mahajan (75) came together to strike 20 boundaries and a solitary six between them, in a partnership of 148. Taking Sunbury to 205-2, Darren London and Robbie Hughes then came together to see the match through to the finish line with the hard work having been done for them!
Though Sunbury would go on to have an extremely successful 2nd XI season, they were just pipped to the title by Wimbledon CC in 2017, but this partnership will live long in the memory of those involved!
