1. The Club

The Club

Whether you are looking to play Premier League cricket in London and the South East or for an intimate and friendly club with strong links with the local community and schools the opportunities do not come any better than those at Sunbury Cricket Club.

We are one of the largest and most vibrant cricket clubs in the Region with our own secluded and attractive ground on the Lower Hampton Road which has matured impressively since the Club moved here in 1959.

Situated between Kempton Park Racecourse and the River Thames and just 1½ miles from the M3 we are readily accessible from all directions and have a large car park and a large pavilion and bar offering refreshments of all kinds.

Senior and Colts Family Membership

Applications for membership are welcomed. Sunbury CC appeals to a wide range of senior and colts players. We field 4 Saturday senior sides, all of whom play in the top Divisions of their respective leagues of the Surrey Championship. We field two or three senior XIs in cup, league and friendly matches on Sundays, together with 11 Colts teams, sometimes more where we are able to field B teams.

Clubmark and Focus Club Status

We were amongst the first Clubs in Surrey to achieve Clubmark status awarded by The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB), as part of their club accreditation programme, using Sport England’s national accreditation scheme for cricket clubs with junior sections. Being Clubmark accredited is a recognition that those clubs are safe, effective and child friendly.

Achieving Clubmark status was a prerequisite to our becoming a Focus Club which we achieved under the auspices of Surrey County Cricket Club. As a Focus Club, we have been placed at the heart of a Community Cluster in partnership with local schools, community groups, local business and sponsors. Apart from bring added vibrancy to the Club this also opens the way for grants to develop our Club facilities. The first manifestation of these financial benefits came with the opening of our new nets complex (see photograph below) by the Mayor of Spelthorne in 2009.

Club and Representative Matches

We are committed to a programme of County 2nd XI and other senior and age related representational fixtures arranged by the ECB and Surrey. In 2009 we hosted an Over 60 ‘Ashes’ match between England and Australia (won by England). We also provided the venue for a match between the Club Cricket Conference and the touring Australian Indigenous XI. We have a full cricket week which takes place in the first week of August with opposition as diverse as the MCC and the Barmy Army. The week finishes with President’s Day on the Thursday and a Twenty/20 Festival on Friday.

The Ground

For much of the season there are cricket matches or coaching sessions taking place on the ground almost every day of the week being limited only by the activities and needs of the ground staff. The wickets and outfield are maintained to the highest standard by a full time groundsman and his deputy.

Social Events and Tours

We have an active social programme geared to the interests of players, non-players, colts’ parents and their families. A full-time Bar manager is responsible for the bar and for Members’ and private hire functions. From time to time Club members travel abroad to follow the England team on their Winter Tours. Recent tours have been to the West Indies, South Africa, India and Australia.
